The Pumpkin Nobody Picked
A lumpy little pumpkin is left behind at the pumpkin patch. But it has a special purpose.
At the edge of Sunny Farm's pumpkin patch sat a little pumpkin named Patch. He was lumpy. He was bumpy. And he was a little bit lopsided.
All autumn long, families came to pick pumpkins. "Ooh, this one is perfectly round!" "This one is so big and orange!"
One by one, all the other pumpkins were carried away. But nobody picked Patch.
"Nobody wants a lumpy pumpkin," Patch sighed as the last car drove away.
The next morning, Farmer Rosa came out with her grandson, Leo. "Look, Grandma! There's one left!"
Leo picked up Patch and hugged him. "He's perfect for your famous pie!"
In the warm kitchen, Grandma Rosa baked Patch into the most delicious pumpkin pie the town had ever tasted. Everyone at the fall festival asked for seconds.
But that wasn't all. Leo carefully saved Patch's seeds. Some he roasted with a little salt for a crunchy snack. The rest he dried and saved.
In the spring, Leo planted those seeds in a sunny row. Tiny green vines curled across the field, and big yellow flowers bloomed.
By autumn, the patch was full of new pumpkins β some round, some tall, and some wonderfully lumpy.
And every one of them had started from a pumpkin nobody picked.
