Slow Down, Sonny Sloth
Everyone in the rainforest rushes around — except Sonny the sloth, who shows them a better way.
High in the rainforest, where the leaves were thick and green, Sonny the sloth hung upside down from his favorite branch.
Below him, the rainforest was busy, busy, busy. Monkeys swung and shrieked. Parrots squawked and flapped. Frogs hopped and croaked.
"Hurry up, Sonny!" called Mia the monkey. "There's so much to do!"
Sonny blinked one slow blink. "Why?" he asked.
Mia didn't know. She just knew everyone was rushing.
That afternoon, the monkeys raced to find fruit. They grabbed so fast that they dropped half of it. The parrots zipped around so quickly that they bumped into each other. Everyone was tired and grumpy.
Sonny, meanwhile, reached out one long arm... very... slowly... and picked the ripest, sweetest mango on the tree. He ate it one bite at a time, tasting every drop.
"How did you get the best one?" asked Mia.
"I looked carefully," said Sonny. "When you slow down, you notice more."
So Mia tried it. She took a deep breath. She looked closely. She saw a tiny tree frog, bright as a jellybean. She saw a flower that smelled like honey. She saw a raindrop sliding down a leaf.
"Wow," she said. "I never saw these before."
Sonny smiled a slow smile. "The rainforest isn't going anywhere," he said. "And neither am I."
