The Lion and the Mouse
A big lion lets a tiny mouse go free. One day, the mouse returns the favor.
Lion was sleeping under a tree when a little mouse ran right across his nose.
Lion woke up with a ROAR and caught the mouse under his giant paw.
"Please let me go!" squeaked Mouse. "If you do, maybe one day I can help you."
Lion laughed. "How could a tiny mouse ever help a big lion like me?" But he smiled and lifted his paw. "Off you go, little one."
A few days later, Lion was walking through the grass when β WHOOSH! β he was caught in a hunter's rope net. He pulled and twisted, but he could not get out.
Lion roared so loudly that the whole savanna heard. Mouse heard too, and she came running.
"Hold still," said Mouse. She nibbled the ropes with her sharp little teeth. Nibble, nibble, snap! One rope broke, then another, and another.
Soon there was a hole big enough for Lion to climb out.
"Thank you, little friend," said Lion. "I was wrong. Even someone small can be a big help."
And from that day on, Lion and Mouse were the best of friends.
