Boo was a little ghost who lived in the attic of an old yellow house.

All the other ghosts loved the night. They floated over rooftops and played tag with the bats.

But Boo had a secret. He was afraid of the dark.

"Ghosts aren't supposed to be scared," Boo whispered to himself, and he hid under a blanket.

One night, Owl landed on the windowsill. "Hoo is hiding under there?" she asked kindly.

"It's me, Boo," said the blanket. "The dark is so big and so black. I don't like it."

"Come and look with me," said Owl. "Just for one minute."

Boo peeked out. Up in the sky was a round, silver moon. Tiny stars twinkled all around it. Moonbeams sparkled on the garden like silver ribbons.

"The dark isn't empty," said Owl. "It's full of moonlight and stars and friends. You just have to look."

Boo floated out a little farther. Then a little farther. Soon he was gliding over the garden, dancing in the moonbeams.

"I'm still a tiny bit scared," Boo said.

"That's okay," said Owl. "Brave doesn't mean you are never scared. Brave means you try anyway."

And that night, for the very first time, Boo the little ghost played tag with the bats β€” and he even giggled.
